When you think coastal, think MINT Décor & Design. Located at 12 Market Street in Orange Beach, MINT is a beach lover’s dream from the second walk through the doors. From eclectic door mats with sayings like “I Hope You Brought Wine” and “Welcome To the Jungle” to one of a kind local art made with treasures found right here on our own beaches, MINT is the place to find the pieces that make your home reflect your personality, be it quirky, laid back, or classically southern.
Partners Ardie Pearce and Tammie Kozicki are a design dream team. Pearce, who hails from southern California and Kozicki, who once called Illinois home, both found their way to the gulf coast as tourists, but each left a piece of their heart in Orange Beach. “I knew when I was driving home from Orange Beach, I was leaving home,” Pearce said. Both ladies say that after a little soul searching and a lot of hoop jumping, they both found their way to a new zip code. That’s where their story as partners began.
Upon meeting while working at a local furniture store, the two had instant chemistry and knew they wanted to strike out on their own. With a lot of prayer and putting everything on the line, MINT was born.
And while they work closely as a team, the two say it’s their differences that make them successful. Kozicki said, “I live for the merchandising side of the business where Ardie lives for the design part. I take care of the ordering, the books, the inventory, and she has the eye and the patience to pick out the perfect piece for every project to bring it all together.”
Since they opened the doors of their retail store in 2017, Pearce said business has been booming. “We are always changing our inventory and we are always looking for the next big thing. We wanted our store to be warm and inviting from the second you walk in. There’s no pressure to buy here because we believe that we have the kind of things that sell themselves. We want you to feel like family when you are here because that’s what the staff is here. A big family.”
In addition to shopping in the MINT retail store, Pearce and Kozicki also offer one on one design services that cater to any budget. “We may have someone who tells us they have a $75,000 budget or we may have someone who has saved up for a year to buy a couch. It doesn’t matter to us. We are going to treat you the same and make sure you leave satisfied with your purchase and have a smile on your face,” said Pearce.
MINT’s design services are as in depth as you need them to be, whether you just want to redecorate with furniture and art, or you want to completely remodel from the ground up. “We have contractors that we use that can do anything our clients need. Flooring, ceilings, kitchens, bathrooms…they can do it all. And we only use contractors that we trust, are tried and true, and would use ourselves in our own homes,” Pearce said.
And the ladies believe that design is in the details. “When we meet with a client for the first time, we like having them show us pieces that stand out to them in our showroom. We take the time to get to know them and really listen to what they are wanting, even if they may not know themselves. We do a complete presentation that walks them through the entire design based around their budget, so there’s no surprises. We are honest and up front, and that goes a long way in not only creating a beautiful space, but building lasting relationships with our customers,” Pearce said.
And their vision and hard work is paying off.
“We recently had the owner of a very large management company stop by to tell us the units we have recently updated have increased their profits by 40% in the first six months. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to create something beautiful for people to enjoy while also helping profits go up for the owners,” Pearce said. “Those clients have seen the return on their money quickly, and many of them have already come back to us to do another unit.”
But despite the monetary gain the rental clients are seeing, MINT goes one step further to offer more. Pearce and Kozicki always make sure to add one signature piece to every room they design that is special to each client. Whether it be a rustic life ring with the family name painted on, a surfboard with the coordinates of a place close to the client’s heart, or a bible verse that reminds them to live their best life, the MINT ladies find a way to make each space as special as the people who live in it.
Stop by MINT in Orange Beach and browse for something special for your home because life’s too short to not surround yourself with beauty.
