One of the Gulf Coast’s most unique art shows is back. The 47th Annual Art in the Park will take to the beautiful spring lawn of John B. Foley Park in downtown Foley next Saturday and Sunday, May 11th and 12th.
Since 1971, Art in the Park has been delighting art lovers from all over the country on Mother’s Day weekend. A juried arts festival that attracts thousands each year and features over 100 local and national artists, Art in the Park will have booths that feature a wide variety of media including ceramics, photography, jewelry, sculpture, painting and more. Participate in children’s hands-on activities or enjoy demonstrations of various art media or just try some of the best cuisine the Gulf Coast has to offer.
The event will take place from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, May 11th and from 9 am to 4 pm on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12th.
Artists are chosen for participation by a selection committee. The committee selects exhibitors deemed to best reflect creativity, quality, and originality in their work. In an effort to maintain a balanced show, the number of exhibitors in each category will be limited.
Along with the honor of displaying their best pieces, artist will be awarded prizes to be presented to the Judges Overall Best In Show ($1,000), Paul Duncan Award Fine Arts ($400), Paul Duncan Award Crafts ($400), Second Place Fine Arts ($300), Second Place Crafts ($300), and four Merit Awards ($100 each).
Judging will be done by persons qualified in their respective fields, and will take place on Saturday, weather permitting. Ribbons will be awarded immediately thereafter. Judges’ decisions will be final.
This year Art in the Park will once again provide extended offerings including the addition of 25 artists, on-site cooking demonstrations, live music, and the featured attraction – 4th Annual Art Cars. Art Cars are street-legal vehicles that have been permanently transformed into mobile sculptures.
Last year’s art car show was a big success, drawing not only visitors from the festival but art car fanatics from across the Gulf Coast. Some of the perks for participating in Art Cars include
•Mileage reimbursement (while funding available, 50 cents per mile, up to $600 per art car)
•Discounted hotel rates
•2 Tickets to the Artists’ Party at the Museum of Art on Saturday night which includes free food and libations;
•Ability to sell your own artwork (** art must reflect the spirit of your Art Car**)
